Travel rebounds for February break

Travel is on the rebound as the upcoming school break approaches. AAA's online travel bookings for January were up nearly 250% compared to January 2021, and January travel reservations even surpassed prepandemic levels, increasing 20% over January 2019.
Variety Club announces 60th annual Variety Kids Telethon

The 60th annual Variety Kids Telethon will take place at the Variety Club headquarters located at 6114 Broadway, Lancaster. The event will be produced and presented from both the studios of WGRZ-TV Channel 2, and the Variety Club HQ from 6-11 p.m. Saturday, March 5. The presentation will also be streamed live at www.wgrz.com.
Sweet success! Tops raises $13,000-plus selling gingerbread houses for Oishei Children's Hospital

Tops Friendly Markets raised $13,365 as a result of its gingerbread house campaign for Oishei Children's Hospital. The campaign, which kicked off in early November, welcomed families to purchase a gingerbread house kit at locations throughout the region, with a portion of the proceeds being donated back to the hospital. The kits came complete with gingerbread to build a house, plus sweet candy decorations and icing.

For Natalie Barnhard and her dream of opening a recovery center for people who have a spinal cord injury, all the right puzzle pieces fell into place at the right time. The Natalie Barnhard Center for Spinal Cord Injury Rehabilitation and Recovery opened in Buffalo this fall, welcoming clients who would otherwise have to travel hundreds of miles to find a similar place to work out and, perhaps just as important, bond with other spinal cord injured clients.

The New York State Division of Consumer Protection on Friday issued a consumer alert about the dangers of carbon monoxide and fire hazards in extreme cold weather. The winter months pose the most risk for these hazards - as the temperatures drop, consumers may turn to dangerous heating alternatives to stay warm. Propane heaters, generators, space heaters and/or outdoor grills all pose lethal risks of carbon monoxide poisoning and fire hazards when used improperly.

AAA is preparing for an increase in call volume, especially for dead batteries, as temperatures fall.
