Hometown Hero Project returns to Town of Niagara for 2022

Town welcomes business/community involvement

Planning is now underway for the 2022 edition of the Home Hero Project in the Town of Niagara.

Town Historian Pete Ames said this community project, which has paid tribute to TON veterans over the past three years, continues to grow in popularity.

“Back in 2019, a group of us started a project to honor the veterans who lived or had a business in the Town of Niagara,” he said. “We started with 12 banners representing the wars from Revolutionary through Afghanistan, and installed them on the streetlight poles from the entrance of the Veterans Park up to the Veterans Monument. Another 30 were flown throughout the park and the rest on Lockport Road from Military Road towards Miller Road in alphabetical order.”

For 2022, he said the town has a total of 75 banners ready to mount, and is taking orders for more.

“Sponsors can purchase a vinyl banner that comes with mounting hardware for $150, which includes shipping,” Ames said.

Town residents and businesses can contact him for more and/or an application at 716-297-4429. The next order is due on Feb. 21, so contact Ames sooner than later to honor a veteran from the Town of Niagara.

The banners will go up again in the spring before being taken down for the winter months. This way, they will last for a few years.
