Fall foliage photo contest returns to Erie County Parks

The Erie County Department of Parks, Recreation and Forestry has announced the return of the popular "Fall for Erie County Parks" photo contest, which is open to Erie County residents and offers amateur photographers an opportunity to focus on the beauty of Erie County's 10,000-acre parks system and a chance to win a prize.

Schumer slams EPA for 'suddenly abandoning radioactive clean-up effort in Niagara County'

U.S. Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer on Monday demanded the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency immediately return to Niagara County to expedite the clean-up of radioactive hotspots in Lewiston and Niagara Falls. Schumer said the EPA recently abandoned cleanup activities at one of the sites without a full explanation to local residents, and said the EPA should return to Niagara County as quickly as possible to immediately resume remaining clean-up efforts.
Memorial tree planting set for Oct. 28

Poloncarz was joined Monday by Commissioner of Central Police Services James Jancewicz, Director of the Erie County STOP-DWI Office John Sullivan, and Chief of the Orchard Park Police Department Mark Pacholec to review driving while intoxicated incidents during the summer months across Erie County. Data from the STOP-DWI office indicates DWI arrests for the period of July 3 through Sept. 17 are down from last year.
