Eight Days of Hope (EDOH) is deploying its rapid response heavy equipment team to Western New York to help with snow removal following the several days of intense, lake-effect snow that has covered the area. Multiple feet of snow has fallen in some areas.

Catholic Health has received two grants from the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation totaling $2,125,000. The larger of the two grants - $2,000,000 - will help fund two new CT scanners for Mercy Hospital of Buffalo's busy emergency department (ED), which serves nearly 25,000 patients each year. The remaining $125,000 will support ongoing medical outreach to Buffalo's westside community.

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced the reestablishment of the Interagency Coordinating Council on Services to Persons who are Deaf, Deafblind and Hard of Hearing, within the Office of the Chief Disability Officer. The council, comprised of 15 members representing state agencies and community members, will advocate on behalf of persons who are deaf, hard of hearing or deafblind.

New York State Comptroller Thomas P. DiNapoli is urging New Yorkers to keep track of the gift cards they received during the holidays. Unused gift card balances can be turned over to the comptroller's office of unclaimed funds (OUF) after five years of inactivity. In 2023, the office recovered over $27 million from gift cards.

Niagara County District Attorney Brian D. Seaman announced that Shaquan Gibson, age 49, of Niagara Falls, was sentenced to a combined 65 years to life, the maximum possible sentence, for his conviction of the murder of 24-year-old Cyjear Betton in May of 2022, in Niagara Falls, and related crimes.
