Among the many happenings in northern Niagara last weekend was a can't-miss one in Youngstown. Scores of friends turned out at the Ontario House (aka Jug) for the much-anticipated 60th birthday/retirement party for long-time Jug owner Eddie Wojick.

State Sen. Rob Ortt has announced more than $47,000 in state funding was awarded to three public libraries in Niagara County in need of upgrades. The money was secured in the 2014-15 state budget as part of the $14 million capital funding program for construction and renovation of public libraries and public library systems in New York.

The Erie County Department of Senior Services was awarded a grant of $780,169 from Senior Service America Inc. Almost 90 percent of this grant, which originated from the U.S. Department of Labor, will pay wages and benefits to at least 126 low-income older adults living in Erie County.
