MercyMe earns two Grammy nominations

MercyMe scored two nods for the upcoming 60th Annual Grammy Awards. The recognition in the Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song category for "Even If," and Best Contemporary Christian Album category for "LIFER" totals five career nominations for the multi-Platinum-selling band. The Recording Academy will present the Grammys on Sunday, Jan. 28, 2018, live from Madison Square Garden in New York, and broadcast on the CBS Television Network at 7:30 p.m. ET.

Community Missions' week of giving begins

As part of the global Giving Tuesday initiative, local establishments have teamed with the agency to provide needed funds for the less fortunate. Rainforest Café will donate 10 percent of its sales to Community Missions on Tuesday, Nov. 28, while TGI Friday's will do the same on Wednesday, Nov. 29. On Friday, Dec. 1, Power City Eatery will donate in the same fashion, as will Third Street Retreat on Saturday, Dec. 2. Lewiston's Village Bake Shoppe will also donate $1 for each "Cake in a Cup" sold throughout the week.

Old Fort Niagara invites the public to experience the holiday spirit in the company of 18th century-style merrymakers at this season's "Castle by Candlelight" tours on Dec. 9 and 16. Music, crafts, demonstrations and more will make the French Castle, decorated by the Youngstown Garden Club, brim with festivities. The event will also include the feu de joie celebratory cannon and musket firings.

Poloncarz noted the success of the Erie County Prescription Discount Card Program, a program he had recommended the county pursue in 2008 as county comptroller and that ensures local residents with little or no prescription coverage can obtain their medications at an affordable price.
