The Oakwood Cemetery Association announces its annual Wreaths Across America Remembrance Ceremony. Open to the public, the event will be held at noon Saturday, Dec. 16, in the historic Oakwood Cemetery at the Veterans Garden, 763 Portage Road, Niagara Falls. Free, on-site parking will be available and Tim Hortons will donate light refreshments.
This is a moment in time to remember loved ones and fallen heroes; honor those who serve in all branches of the U.S. military; and teach children about the sacrifice made by veterans and their families in order to preserve freedom.
The gathering starts at 11:30 a.m. inside the Oakwood Cemetery gate. In order to coordinate with Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C., the ceremony at Oakwood will begin promptly at noon with light refreshments to follow in Oakwood House.
Guests are advised to dress according to the weather. The ceremony takes about 30 minutes.
Wreaths are on sale now for $15 each, with $5 of each sale used to maintain the Oakwood Cemetery Veterans' Garden, as well as grave sites of those veterans who served in all branches of the U.S. military going back to the Revolution.
Volunteers are invited to help place wreaths throughout Oakwood. Corporate and community donors are welcome. To order wreaths or for more information, call 716-284-5131.
