The Niagara County Central Rotary Club will be awarding three $500 scholarships to students in the Niagara Wheatfield, Starpoint and Wilson school districts. Applications are available through the guidance offices. Eligible students must be entering college in the fall of 2021.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced a proposal to establish the New York State Cares + Baby2Baby Diaper Bank as part of the 2021 Women's Agenda. Through a partnership with Baby2Baby, a national nonprofit that provides basic essentials for children under the age of 18, 20 million donated diapers will be made available to New York's emergency feeding programs for distribution to food banks throughout the state at no cost to families.

The 2021 version of Relay For Life, tentatively scheduled for June 4, is expected to look far different from previous versions of the event, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. "We are hoping for an in-person event, but it is doubtful that can happen because of New York State protocols, American Cancer Society protocols, and people's comfort levels," said Lynn Marston Dingey, one of three co-chairs of Relay For Life.

Tom Fogarty, the new general manager at Fuccillo Auto Group on Grand Island, is no stranger to the car business. A 38-year veteran of the industry, he has been a general manager with Toyota in Buffalo for 19 of the past 20 years. Stevens, Michelle Lockett and Jim Sharpe were talking about bicycling and hiking on Grand Island and the urgency to bring together New York state, Erie County and Grand Island officials to create a plan to improve bike lanes, connect trails and position the Island as a true ecotourism destination.

St. Paul's Episcopal Cathedral clergy will be in Cathedral Park to offer "ashes-to-go," Communion and blessings to all who walk b on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 17. "Ashes-to-go" times are 7:30-9 a.m., noon to 1 p.m. and 5-6 p.m. To honor COVID-19 precautionary measures, all ashes will be distributed in small containers for individuals to self impose.
