At a Feb. 9 meeting, Youngstown Mayor Rob Reisman and village trustees announced Niagara Jet City Cruises (Niagara Jet Adventures) would not return to its Water Street facility for the 2023 season. The company was operated by City Cruises Canada, a subsidiary of the Hornblower Group based in Niagara Falls, Ontario. Officials stated the decision was based on marketing, and reflected tourism changes brought on by the coronavirus pandemic.

The New York State Police announced Troopers issued more than 11,800 tickets during a special STOP DWI traffic enforcement period over Super Bowl Weekend. During the campaign which started Friday, Feb. 10, and ran through Monday, Feb. 13, Troopers arrested 183 people for DWI, and investigated 490 crashes, which resulted in 73 people being injured and four fatalities.

Mount St. Mary's Hospital has appointed Sarah Tabone as director of the Clearview Treatment Services program. She brings 20 years of experience to this role, and holds a BA degree in psychology from Niagara University, along with CASAC Advanced Counselor Certification. Tabone is a recipient of Niagara University's Presidential Scholarship.

Niagara County District Attorney Brian D. Seaman announced Howard J. Murphy, age 61, of the Town of Niagara, entered a guilty plea in County Court to the crime of criminal mischief in the second degree, as a hate crime. Murphy admitted to vandalizing a neighbor's fence on May 16, 2022, by spraypainting onto it a violent message containing a racial slur. The incident occurred just two days after the mass shooting at Topps in Buffalo.

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn announced a jury has found 32-year-old Cortez Foster of Buffalo guilty of one count of murder in the second degree (class "A-I" felony) and one count of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree (class "C" violent felony). Jurors rendered their decision Wednesday afternoon after approximately two-and-a-half hours of deliberation following a five-day trial, convicting the defendant of all charges in the indictment against him.

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Basil Seggos announced the second round of competitive grants for the Forest Conservation Easements for Land Trusts (FCELT) Grant program. In partnership with the Land Trust Alliance, a total of $1.35 million in grant funding is available for DEC to award to eligible, accredited land trusts to purchase conservation easements on forested land for the purpose of protecting these lands from future development.
