Change to public skate hours; ‘February Fun Skate’ is Monday

With several school districts closed next week, it is a prime opportunity to take advantage of the final days of the Ice at Canalside, presented by Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield of Western New York. The Ice at Canalside will be open for skating, curling, bumper cars and fun every day through Sunday, Feb. 26.

“Taking one last skate with friends or family at Canalside is a great way to put a bow on the winter season at Canalside,” said Lauren Moloney-Ford, general manager, Buffalo Waterfront. “For Buffalo Public School students who haven’t used their free skates passes, the next 10 days are their last to do so.”

“February Fun Skate,” presented by Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield of Western New York, is Presidents’ Day (Monday, Feb. 20), from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. During this time, skate admission and rental, curling and bumper cars are free, along with hot chocolate and water. Curling and bumper cars will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

A press release noted, “There are plenty of other events happening at the ice to check out before it closes for the season. Relive your high school prom at ‘Prom Night’ on Friday, Feb. 17, and then join us as we welcome in spring, or at least hopes of one, with ‘Hawaiian Night – The Last Luau’ on Friday, Feb. 24.”

“ ‘Paula’s and Pints’ night will continue on Wednesdays, and Thursdays are still college nights through the remainder of the season,” Moloney-Ford said.

Ice at Canalside’s public skate hours are:

  • Feb. 17: 1-10 p.m.
  • Feb. 18: 10 a.m. – 10 p.m.
  • Feb. 19: 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.
  • Feb. 20: 10 a.m. – 7 p.m.
  • Feb. 21: 10 a.m. – 7 p.m.
  • Feb. 22: 10 a.m. – 7 p.m.
  • Feb. 23: 10 a.m. – 7 p.m.
  • Feb. 24: 10 a.m. – 10 p.m.
  • Feb. 25: 10 a.m. – 10 p.m.
  • Feb. 26: 10 a.m. – 8 p.m.

To visit the ice, take the NFTA Metro Rail to the Erie Canal Harbor Station stop, or there is ample parking in Canalside-area parking ramps and surface lots. Access to the rink is available from Main Street, Commercial Street and Marine Drive.
