Slaughter secures $9.5 million authorization for base

On Thursday, the Board of Trustees backed away from a Lewiston Lions Club proposal to collect charitable contributions inside of Artpark during the "Tuesday in the Park" concert series. Instead, trustees approved a plan wherein volunteers representing Heart, Love and Soul and Community Missions can solicit patrons outside of the performing arts venue's South Fourth Street entrance.

The Lewiston/Niagara-on-the-Lake Rotary Club has presented a $500 donation to the Lewiston Council on the Arts as a token of appreciation and support of community service to Lewiston and the Niagara Region. The Lewiston Council on the Arts and the Village of Lewiston have provided their stamp of approval to the Lewiston/Niagara-on-the-Lake Rotary Club in their hosting of Art of Ribs 2010, which is going to be held in Academy Park the weekend of the 44th annual Lewiston Art Festival, Aug. 14-15. Rotary will donate proceeds from this fundraising event to the Mount St. Mary's Hospital Foundation, Breast Care Center and Maternity Ward.
DelMonte continues fight for parks

Assemblywoman Francine DelMonte, D-Lewiston, reported this week she is continuing her fight to keep Wilson-Tuscarora and Joe Davis state parks open by pushing for passage of a bill that would keep them operating through the end of the fiscal year, ending March 31, 2011 (A.11013). Specifically, the measure would require the state Office for Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation to use funding allocated to them in the budget extenders to maintain the same level of services provided as last year.
