Mount St. Mary's Hospital, Catholic Health, and Niagara Catholic High School have teamed to organize the "Pathways to Careers" program.

Initiated by Mount St. Mary's, the program provides unique opportunities for high school and middle school students in planning for careers in health and health-related fields.  The initiative will begin with a "Career Summit" to be held at Niagara Catholic, 520 66th St., on Wednesday, June 2, from 9:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. It will feature more than a dozen departments of Mount St. Mary's providing in-depth information on health service occupations and careers.

This is an opportunity to expose these students at an early age to the wide-array of career opportunities available in health care," said program coordinator Honor Martin, director of organizational development at Mount St. Mary's.

Departments participating include: community relations, education and staff development, dietary and nutrition services, patient care services (nursing), patient resource management, diagnostic imaging, health information management, cardiopulmonary health services, laboratory services, human resources, rehabilitation and sports medicine, information technology services, laboratory, and spiritual care services.

Students will be provided information on health careers and will be selected to work with respective departments in a structured, hands-on program of instruction and discipline-guided activities on-site at Mount St. Mary's beginning in September.
