State Parks Niagara River Greenway Standing Committee releases 2020 schedule

The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation Niagara River Greenway Standing Committee has released its schedule of remaining 2020 sessions. Meetings will be held at 11 a.m. - only if there are new business items to review. Dates include: Wednesday, March 25; Wednesday, June 17; and Wednesday Sept. 23.

Niagara County Clerk Joseph Jastrzemski and Niagara County Legislature Chairwoman Rebecca Wydysh today said Niagara County residents should strongly consider getting passports rather than rely on New York state driver's licenses to meet the TSA requirements for REAL ID for all domestic flights that takes effect on Oct. 1. The new rules require every traveler 18 years of age an older to have at minimum a REAL-ID-compliant driver's license to fly within the U.S.
NIH awards UB $21.7 million to continue Buffalo's rapid trajectory growing its health care & research sectors

The University at Buffalo has been awarded a five-year, $21.7 million clinical and translational science award (CTSA) from the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences of the National Institutes of Health in recognition of the dramatic progress UB and its partners have made since 2015 when UB first received the CTSA. NIH announced the funding today.

The New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH) has awarded a $45,000 grant to the Erie County Anti-Stigma Coalition to expand its awareness campaign, "Join the Conversation," into Niagara County. The coalition's campaign promotes mental health awareness and fights the stigma surrounding mental illness, which can be a barrier preventing people from seeking the help and treatment they need.

Drew Bernstein is a missionary at St. Luke's Mission of Mercy on Buffalo's East Side. He is also the coordinator of its Code Blue initiative when up to 50 cots and bedding are rolled out for homeless men to escape the winter cold at night when the temperatures are below freezing. It is a place where these men can obtain a hot meal and breakfast in the morning, dry their clothing and hopefully, a good night's sleep in a safe environment.

He was the beloved husband of Judy (née Biggie) Andross; devoted father of Traci Andross Terlecky, Andrew Andross and Alexandria (Josh) Fry; cherished stepfather of Justin (Rachael) Selzler and Greg (Danielle) Halbert; adored grandfather of Nicholas George, Sophia, Julien, Josh, Edmund, Jonny, Alayna, Willow, Amber, Emma, Ari, Robert and the late Samuel; dear brother of Edward (Karen) Andross and Linda (Tony) Cellini. He is also survived by loving nieces and nephews.
