Tops to honor US veterans & active military with 11% discount this Veterans Day

Tops Friendly Markets will once again offer military personnel and their immediate families an 11% discount off of their grocery bill this Veterans Day. This marks the 12th year Tops has been extending this discount to military personnel and their families.

Early voting for this November's elections begins this Saturday, Oct. 26, at five early voting locations across Niagara County, according to the Niagara County Board of Elections. Any registered voter may go to any of the locations during the early voting period.

Associates of Vietnam Veterans Association Chapter 77 will hold a basket raffle and craft show from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, at Gratwick Fire House, 110 Ward Road, North Tonawanda. Proceeds support veteran patients in the nursing homes connected to the Batavia and Buffalo VA, as well as children of veterans during the December holidays.

Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announced Christopher L. Busby, 40, of Buffalo, was sentenced this morning before State Supreme Court Justice Paul B. Wojtaszek to five years in prison followed by five years of post-release supervision. His son, Daiquan A. Busby, 21, of Buffalo, was also sentenced this morning before Judge Wojtaszek to seven and a half years in prison followed by five years of post-release supervision.
National Move Over Day: New York expands 'Move Over' requirement

Oct. 19 was National Move Over Day, recognized on the third Saturday of October every year. This year, New York's "Slow Down/Move Over law" expanded to include disabled vehicles that are parked on the shoulder of a controlled access highway or parkway, requiring drivers to exercise caution when approaching a disabled vehicle.

The Lewiston Beautification group informed the Tribune/Sentinel that more decorative pumpkins were stolen from their Center Street display this week. Thefts occurred either late Tuesday or early Wednesday. Volunteers are "beyond frustrated" this happened for a second time since displays were installed two weekends ago.
