The Zonta Club of Grand Island begins its observance of the 16 Days of Activism on Monday, Nov. 25, and the event runs through Tuesday, Dec. 10.
The proclamation calls for an end to violence against women worldwide.
Zonta Club President Heidi Travagline said the Town Board will issue a proclamation about the campaign at the board’s meeting on Monday, Nov. 18.
The 16 Days of Activism event supports Zonta International’s “Say No to Violence Against Women” campaign. Members of Zonta clubs, including Grand Island’s, are encouraged to take local, national and international actions to influence the making and implementation of laws, as well as changing gender-based attitudes and behaviors, to end violence against women.
The campaign against gender-based violence is an annual international campaign that begins on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. It concludes on Human Rights Day. It was started by activists at the inaugural Women’s Global Leadership Institute in 1991 and continues to be coordinated each year by the Center for Women’s Global Leadership.
