The average Lake Ontario outflow during the month of February was the highest in recorded history. Historical records start in 1900 and include outflows that occurred both prior to and since the beginning of regulation in 1960. A stable ice cover in the St. Lawrence River allowed Plan 2014 to increase outflow under the ice, and, as a result, Lake Ontario levels have fallen below those recorded at this time in 2017.

The bill would empower survivors of childhood sexual abuse to confront their abusers as adults, and provide law enforcement with the means to bring child predators to justice.

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Basil Seggos announced New York is petitioning the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for its "failure to address the movement of ozone from upwind states to downwind states." Specifically, New York is asking that EPA require power plants and large industrial sources in nine upwind states to reduce their contribution of pollution impacting New York.

The New York State Conference of Local Mental Hygiene Directors (CLMHD), along with representatives of the New York State Sheriffs' Association and the New York State Association of Counties, urged state leaders to include $12.8 million in the state budget for jail-based substance use disorder (SUD) treatment and post-release transition services. Advocates for the funding were joined by a bipartisan group of legislators from the Senate and Assembly.

Assemblyman Angelo J. Morinello joined members of the Republican minority conference at a press conference unveiling a plan to improve New York's Medicaid program by providing critical assistance to localities. Under this proposal, the state would take over and pay for the local share of Medicaid, resulting in economic growth and reduced property taxes for state taxpayers. New York currently has the second-most costly Medicaid program in the nation next to California.

The Niagara-Wheatfield Falcons hockey team has been through it all this season.
Coming off the previous season where they didn't make the sectional final; a middle of the season where they weren't playing their best hockey; a historic end of the season run; and the tragic loss of a classmate mixed into four months was just tidbits of what the Falcons went through.
After the tragedy in the community, the team uplifted many Wheatfield spirits with a run to the New York state large schools championship. Unfortunately, good things come to an end, and on Sunday evening, the Falcons were defeated by the No. 1 team in New York state, the Victor Blue Devils, 5-1.

It was a season many believed could be "the year" for the Niagara Falls Wolverines basketball team. The team compiled one of their best seasons in recent history and hopes were high. The hopes and dreams of the state tournament are now let to be "what if's?"
The Wolverines were defeated by the McQuaid Knights, 65-57, in the Far West Regional game at Buffalo State.
