Congress members Kenny Marchant (TX-24) and Brian Higgins (NY-26), members of the House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Trade, led a bipartisan letter to Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross and U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer requesting the U.S. re-engage in discussions with Canada to reach a negotiated agreement on softwood lumber.

Mariah Rice, a seventh-grader at Edward Town Middle School, has grown up being a helping hand to those in need. Along with her family, Rice has helped plant vegetables for a community garden and has participated in multiple holiday food drives and school supply drives. It doesn't end there. She also helped with an oil change event to provide free oil changes to those in need.
BOCES celebrates practical nursing graduates

Recently, 16 students who graduated from the Orleans/Niagara BOCES practical nursing program were honored. Successful completion of the program entitles the graduates to apply to take the New York State Licensing Exam.

Niagara-Wheatfield's Errick Road Elementary School began the 2017-18 school year by implementing a new school-wide framework for developing positive behavior called PBIS. PBIS stands for positive behavior interventions and support. PBIS is a statewide-recognized system geared toward teaching students proper behavior, and then rewards students and classes that demonstrate those desired behaviors.

The 179th Erie County Fair will see the inauguration of a daily patriotic tradition that will honor veterans and active military members. Beginning Aug. 8 at 6:30 p.m. and continuing each evening during the 12-day run of the fair, a flag retreat ceremony will be held at Slade Park.
