The following incidents occurred from July 1 to 7, as reported by the Grand Island Fire Co. A total of 44 calls were answered by the department during this period. The GIFC has now responded to 711 calls so far this year.

Grisanti asks judge for maximum penalties against Tonawanda Coke

New York State Sen. Mark Grisanti, R-I-Buffalo, submitted a letter to the chief district judge of the United States District Court, asking for the maximum fine that is allowed by law to be handed to Tonawanda Coke Corporation for the illegal actions and willful violation of environmental law that resulted in health-related problems and illnesses for some residents who live near the Tonawanda Coke facility.

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Niagara County has announced the 2013 Niagara County Fair kickoff event, the Farm-City Breakfast, will be sponsored by Niagara County Community College.

On July 31, more than 600 people will enjoy a homestyle breakfast in the food tent at the Niagara County Fair located on the fair grounds at 4487 Lake Ave., Lockport. The festivities begin at 8 a.m. Tickets for the Farm-City Breakfast are available now in the CCE-Niagara County administrative building or the day of the breakfast for $7. The NCCC mascot will be at the breakfast with a free giveaway.
