Paddles Up Niagara 2012

Some of the paddlers at Saturday's seventh annual Paddles Up Niagara were novices making their first effort on the water at the signature event of the Niagara River Greenway Commission. Michael Phelps, the most decorated Olympian of all time with 20 medals, swims for his final individual gold medal of the London Olympics Friday night in the 100m butterfly, a race which he memorably won by .01 seconds in Beijing. Missy Franklin swims for her third gold medal - fourth overall - in the 200m backstroke, her best event. Also in primetime, Cullen Jones and Anthony Ervin chase gold against the fastest men in the pool in the 50m freestyle.

On July 31, the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense passed the Department of Defense Appropriations Act, which included language that would enact a one-year strategic pause for Air Force structure adjustments. This would prevent cuts to the Air National Guard and protect installations like the 107th Airlift Wing at the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station.
