FASNY tuition aid program expanded

Volunteer firefighters now can have up to 100 percent of their tuition costs for online courses at SUNY Empire State College's Center for Distance Learning funded by the Firemen's Association of the State of New York Higher Education Learning Plan.
Scoping hearing planned on Niagara Falls park bridges

The New York State Department of Transportation has announced a scoping public hearing will be held between 5 and 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, to discuss the proposed rehabilitation/replacement of the American Falls bridges, which connect Niagara Falls, Green Island and Goat Island within the Niagara Falls State Park.

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Niagara County has announced the 2013 Niagara County Fair kickoff event, the Farm-City Breakfast, will be sponsored by Niagara County Community College.

On July 31, more than 600 people will enjoy a homestyle breakfast in the food tent at the Niagara County Fair located on the fair grounds at 4487 Lake Ave., Lockport. The festivities begin at 8 a.m. Tickets for the Farm-City Breakfast are available now in the CCE-Niagara County administrative building or the day of the breakfast for $7. The NCCC mascot will be at the breakfast with a free giveaway.

Trustees in the Village of Lewiston approved a development plan for 765 Fairchild Place, site of the former Fairchild Manor, at Monday's monthly board meeting. HARBORcenter Development has announced an agreement was reached with Marriott International and Shaner Hotels to develop and operate the hotel facility at HARBORcenter in downtown Buffalo. The hotel property, which has been awarded a full-service Marriott franchise to be operated by Shaner Hotels, will be part of a $170 million multi-use hockey and entertainment complex in the Canalside District.
