NT Mayor Ortt announces extra bulk and brush pickup due to aftermath of storm

North Tonawanda Mayor Robert G. Ortt has announced the city will pick up any bulk items that were damaged as a result of the severe thunderstorm this past Friday night. In addition, any tree branches, or brush related to storm damage can be placed at the curb.
Niagara University hosting July 30 appreciation reception for Father Levesque

On Tuesday, July 30, from 1 to 3 p.m., Niagara University will hold a small reception in honor of the Rev. Joseph L. Levesque, C.M., as he steps aside as president. The going away gathering will be held on the Niagara campus in St. Vincent's Hall, rooms 405-406.

Let there be light: Power returns to Niagara County

Electricity gradually returned Saturday afternoon and evening to the homes of National Grid customers in Niagara County that were dark following Friday's storm.

As of 9:30 p.m., less than 1,000 homes were waiting to receive electricity. Just 12 hours earlier, more than 5,000 homes in Lewiston alone were without power. National Grid reported that, at the storm's peak, about 75,000 customers in upstate New York were left in the dark. About 28,500 customers were in the Western New York region - primarily in Erie and Niagara counties.

On Saturday, Sept. 7, St. Peter's School in Lewiston will host a celebration to commemorate the 60 years of academic excellence and prestige that it has maintained. The event will begin at 4 p.m. at St. Peter's R.C. Church, where a Mass will be held. It will be followed by a reception at the nearby Barton Hill Hotel & Spa.

Food and refreshments will be available, and an evening program will feature a number of festivities. Alumni, former students, parents, faculty, and those who have shared an experience with St. Peter's are welcome to attend.

An epic ode to "Star Wars" from the creators of Disney's animated comedy "Phineas and Ferb" is in production. The one-hour event episode will premiere next year on Disney Channel and Disney XD. It places the characters of "Phineas and Ferb" in the same space and time as the world of "Star Wars."

Grisanti asks judge for maximum penalties against Tonawanda Coke

New York State Sen. Mark Grisanti, R-I-Buffalo, submitted a letter to the chief district judge of the United States District Court, asking for the maximum fine that is allowed by law to be handed to Tonawanda Coke Corporation for the illegal actions and willful violation of environmental law that resulted in health-related problems and illnesses for some residents who live near the Tonawanda Coke facility.
