Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Friday announced the New York State Department of Health will allow visitation of residents in nursing home facilities in accordance with CMS and CDC guidelines. The Department of Health recommends visitors take a rapid test before entry into the facility, and DOH will provide rapid tests to nursing homes at no cost.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo on Thursday announced $4 million is being awarded through the Climate Resilient Farming Grant Program to help 80 farms across the state reduce their environmental footprints and prepare for extreme weather events resulting from climate change. His team said the projects selected will reduce greenhouse gases by an estimated 90,000 metric tons of CO2 per year, or as much as eliminating nearly 20,000 cars from the road.

The 2021 version of Relay For Life, tentatively scheduled for June 4, is expected to look far different from previous versions of the event, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. "We are hoping for an in-person event, but it is doubtful that can happen because of New York State protocols, American Cancer Society protocols, and people's comfort levels," said Lynn Marston Dingey, one of three co-chairs of Relay For Life.

The Buffalo Zoo has teamed up with Zoo Atlanta (Georgia) and the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium (Ohio) to form a new gorilla troop located at Zoo Atlanta. Amari, the 10-year western lowland gorilla, born at the Buffalo Zoo in 2010, recently traveled with the Zoo Atlanta animal care team from Buffalo to Atlanta.

Buffalo's rich and detailed presidential and political history is now on display at the Buffalo Presidential Center, which on Monday unveiled its new, permanent, 1,700-square-foot space at the Downtown Central Library in Buffalo. Until now, the center has operated without a permanent home space and has relied on the collaboration and generosity of other local and regional organizations for a place to gather audiences, share information, and display selections from an extensive collection of more than 10,000 political artifacts.

On Wednesday, local officials were on hand as Heart, Love & Soul food pantry cut the ribbon on the newly constructed Sr. Beth Brosmer Center. The center will house its new Daybreak program - a collaboratively designed one-stop program involving more than 30 partner agencies.
