Making spirits bright: Pictures of holiday happenings, homes

Thu, Dec 24th 2020 07:00 am

•Photographer Mark Williams Jr. recently photographed holiday scenes in front of the Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino as well as “Candy Cane Story Lane at Prospect Park,” both in Niagara Falls.

Seneca Gaming Corp. lit its tree in a little different fashion this year, due to the coronavirus pandemic. Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino conducted a virtual holiday tree lighting event, wherein a small group of Seneca Nation and SGC officials shared a holiday message. The event was livestreamed for those at home and broadcast live inside the property for guests to enjoy. The virtual event replaced the annual in-person tree lighting ceremony, which traditionally features musical numbers and an appearance from Santa Claus.

“Candy Cane Story Lane at Prospect Park” is a collaboration between Niagara University’s Levesque Institute for Civic Engagement, New York State Parks, the Health Foundation of Western and Central New York, and CCNY Inc. Children and their families can take a self-guided stroll to read Gregg and Evan Spiridellis’ charming story “Are You Grumpy Santa?” through Dec. 31.
