HART fundraiser returns to Lewiston Event Center with Summer of '69 headlining

The Home Assistance Referral Team's annual "Rockin' with HART" fundraiser will take place beginning at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 6, at the Lewiston Event Center, 845 Cayuga St. The event includes a basket raffle, a 50/50 split and a batch of celebrity bartenders. Admission is free.

Morinello joins road workers for CHIPS rally

Republican Assemblyman Angelo Morinello on Wednesday joined New York highway employees calling on the governor and the Legislature to include budgetary funding to help repair damaged roads and highways across the state. The Consolidated Local Street and Highway Improvement Program (CHIPS) provides state funds to various areas across the state for roads, bridges and highway projects.

The 50th annual Olcott Polar Bear "Swim For Sight" was held Sunday afternoon on the Lake Ontario shores at Olcott Beach. Roughly 400 swimmers participated, while all types of food and vendors could be found on the hamlet's Main Street for a huge crowd of onlookers.
Lewiston Police Department introduces new officers

Lewiston Town Board members and visitors to Monday's session at Town Hall had the opportunity to welcome the newest officers to the Lewiston Police Department. Chief Frank Previte officiated a swearing-in ceremony for new officers Mitchell Pegan, Adriano Medici and Lt. Michael Milbrand, who recently retired from the Tonawanda Police Department. All three joined the LPD on Feb. 18.

The 195-year-old Frontier House was sold to a group consisting of Ellicott Development CEO William Paladino and Lewiston developers Jeff and Jerry Williams. Their newly formed LLC purchased the building and almost one acre of land - including a parking lot - from Hastings Lewiston Inc. for the price of $800,000.

When WTS Chairman Gary Hall proposed adding a tennis complex to his company's North Second and Mohawk streets property in 2013, his son, Brian, said the impetus is "My father very much cares for his employees. Building a health and wellness center for WTS employees, he felt, was the right thing to do. Health and wellness is very important. We want our employees to be happy, healthy."

The big man in the red suit arrived in Lewiston via Rainbow Air helicopter on Saturday morning. After successfully landing in Academy Park, Santa met with children and families before boarding his special Deal Realty Float. J&J Strassburg Trucking transported the holly-jolly one to the International Peace Garden, where he greeted even more youth.

Mount St. Mary's craft committee makes hospital time happy for children

The craft committee, part of the St. Francis Guild at Mount St. Mary's Hospital, meets every Tuesday to make bears for the children who come to the hospital for surgery and other services. When children arrive for surgery they are greeted by a bear on their bed along with their gown, booties and blanket. As the child gets ready for their procedure, so does their bear.

Old Fort Niagara's busy season of re-enactments continues with "Soldiers of the Revolution," Aug. 18-19, when the fort's staff and volunteers will work with visiting re-enacting units to share history from the American Revolution on the Niagara Frontier. During this event, visitors will gain an understanding of early America through the perspectives of the colonial rebels versus those who remained loyal to the British crown, called loyalists.
