It's no secret Niagara County residents are very generous. This Christmas, families served by the Child Advocacy Center of Niagara learned just how generous Niagarans can be.
Members of the Greater Niagara Federal Credit Union, civic organizations and community members donated carloads of gift items such as new stuffed animals, blankets, warm clothing, books, board games, toiletries, journals, adult coloring books, sketch pads and more during a December holiday drive held by the credit union.
"When a large number of items were being dropped off, the tellers would thank them and ask the name of the organization so I could send a thank you card. Many of the organizations said this was something they wanted to do as a group and were not looking for anything thanks in return," said Greater Niagara FCU spokeswoman Jennifer Grier. "The generosity of the residents of Niagara County is simply amazing."
"We were amazed by the response," said Child Advocacy Center Director Ann Marie Tucker. "These gifts made Christmas memorable and joyful for so many of the families we serve, and will continue to bring support and comfort to our clients for weeks to come."
The Child Advocacy Center, a service of Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, provides a comfortable environment where a Niagara County child reported as abused can be interviewed, receive a medical evaluation, participate in therapy and receive support services.
Greater Niagara FCU has been a supporter of the Child Advocacy Center for more than 20 years and will again collect items during April - which is Youth Month at the credit union and national Child Abuse Prevention Month. Donations will be accepted at both offices: 2901 Military Road, Niagara Falls, and 160 Ward Road, North Tonawanda.
