NCLCA conference attracts national audience to NCCC

Niagara County Community College hosted participants from all over the country as part of the 33rd annual National College Learning Center Association Annual (NCLCA) Conference, titled, "Unleashing the Power of Your Learning Center." The conference provided higher education learning center professionals with the opportunity to discover best practices for tutoring services, data collection and supplemental instruction, while gaining mentorship from others in the field.
Community Missions receives donation from Coldwell Banker Integrity Real Estate

SPCA of Niagara receives a treat from Niagara's Choice Credit Union

SPCA representatives, Estelle and Animal Cruelty Investigator Ryan Scott accepted a $2,500 donation from Niagara's Choice Federal Credit Union. The donation was from the proceeds of the Credit Union's annual golf tournament held this past August at the Frontier Golf Club.

GNBC to hold 'Nutcracker' auditions

The family of the late Robert O. Steinjan Sr. recently presented a check for $9,850 to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center in support of the hospital's new inpatient cardiac and stroke care unit. The gift represents proceeds from the third annual Robert O. Steinjan Sr. Memorial Car Show, held this summer at Hoover's Dairy Store in Sanborn.

The Castellani Art Museum of Niagara University will present an exhibition of model ships created from the imagination of artist Justin Higner, opening with a reception from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9. "The Higner Maritime Collection: Twenty-Five Years of Ship Building by Justin Higner" will be on display through March 17, 2019.

The Corning Museum of Glass (CMoG) GlassBarge tour arrived at Canalside on Friday. The 2018 GlassBarge tour will be docked at Canalside from Aug. 3-5. As the 2018 signature event for the statewide celebration of the Erie Canal Bicentennial, GlassBarge will offer free public glassmaking demonstrations during its visit.
Destination Niagara USA: Tourism spending in Niagara County reaches $708 million

Earlier this week, New York state released the tourism economics research study for 2017, which provides analyses on the economic impact of tourism across the state. The study revealed the total traveler spend in Niagara County in 2017 reached $708,276,000, which is an increase of 8.8 percent over 2016.
Village of Lewiston: Frontier House scans to give detailed blueprint of building

Niagara Boundary and Mapping Services President Kenneth Lee Slaugenhoupt spent part of the past week laser-scanning the Frontier House. Working inside and outside the building, he used a FARO Laser Scanner, which, he said, is capable of collecting 488,000 measurements per minute with a tolerance of ±3mm (or 1/8 inch).
NFMMC donates intensive care beds to Stella Niagara

Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center recently donated two intensive care hospital beds to the Sisters of St. Francis of Penance and Christian Charity motherhouse at Stella Niagara in Lewiston. Fifty-two sisters, half of whom receive skilled nursing and assisted living care, live at Stella Niagara.
VFW: Limited-edition 'Circle of Honor' coin released

The Lewiston Veterans of Foreign Wars has released its new coin commemorating the future "Circle of Honor." It is the first "challenge" coin the local veterans organization has minted and features the "Circle of Honor" project, which is being undertaken to replace the 1955 memorial at Academy Park with a redesigned and more inclusive monument.

The publication, being released to the community for the first time on Saturday, celebrates the lives of almost 70 Niagara County residents aged 90 and older.
