The family of the late Robert O. Steinjan Sr. recently presented a check for $9,850 to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center in support of the hospital's new inpatient cardiac and stroke care unit. The gift represents proceeds from the third annual Robert O. Steinjan Sr. Memorial Car Show, held this summer at Hoover's Dairy Store in Sanborn.
This donation brought the total raised by the Steinjans to $25,250 - thereby exceeding the goal they set for themselves in 2016.
"This has truly been a labor of love for the Steinjan family," Memorial Medical Center Vice President for Community Relations Judith Nolan Powell said. "We are deeply grateful for their support."
Robert O. Steinjan Sr., who died in 2015 at the age of 76, had chronic heart disease and was treated at Memorial after suffering both a stroke and a heart attack. His family was so favorably impressed by the care he received that they vowed to raise $25,000 for the new unit, which opened in January, by holding an annual classic car show until they reached their goal.
"The Steinjan family's hard work and generosity have certainly made a positive impact on our quality of care by supporting the purchase of specialized equipment for the treatment of heart and stroke patients," said Clinical Coordinator Janet Kundl, R.N. "Their level of caring inspires our entire staff."
To show its appreciation, Memorial has dedicated the cardiac and stroke care unit's family education room in Steinjan's memory. And while they have reached their goal, the family said they plan to hold one more car show in 2019 to celebrate what would have been Steinjan's 80th birthday.
