Ransomville Speedway is in the process of finding the track's new promoter/general manager. Current GM Jenn Martin has taken on a new position and, in a mutual agreement with Ransomville Speedway management, will be vacating her position beginning June 1.
Nancy Price 5K returns to Youngstown

The 27th annual Nancy Price 5K Race was held in Youngstown last Saturday. There was a staggered start due to social distancing and no awards ceremony or food afterward, but it was still a fun time for the entrants.

Mackenzie Kulesza Memorial to open Ransomville Speedway's 63rd season

With the rainout this past Friday night, Ransomville Speedway will try again and open the gates for the first time in 2021 on Friday, May 14, with the running of the Mackenzie Kulesza Memorial for the Sunflowers of Sanborn Mini Stocks. The 36-lap event is in honor of Mackenzie Kulesza, the 11-year-old who died tragically following a car accident in November 2020.
Lewiston Council on the Arts & Lewiston Public Library to debut 'Bug Fest'

The Lewiston Council on the Arts and the Lewiston Public Library have teamed up to present a new offering, called "Bug Fest." It will take place in Seneca "Bug" Park, adjacent to the library on South Eighth St., from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, July 10. LCA said the event will feature "lots of cool, bug-themed programs for children of all ages."

Catholic Health hospitals recognized for high-quality maternity care

Three Catholic Health hospitals in Erie and Niagara counties have been recognized by BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York for high-quality maternity care as part of the Blue Distinction Specialty Care program. Sisters of Charity Hospital, Mercy Hospital of Buffalo, and Mount St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston were named Blue Distinction Centers (BDC) for Maternity Care. The three hospitals delivered more than 5,700 babies in 2019.

'Critical' $500,000 waterline replacement completed in Niagara County

Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced the completion of a $500,000 project replacing a badly deteriorated waterline suspended over Twelve-mile creek in the Town of Wilson. Funded through the governor's Resiliency and Economic Development Initiative, the replacement will help reduce municipal maintenance costs and ensure the homes and businesses served by this town-owned infrastructure will have a reliable supply of water long into the future.

Reacting to an overwhelming number of people who showed up for the Niagara County Department of Motor Vehicles' first walk-in hours since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Niagara County Clerk Joseph A. Jastrzemski said future walk-in hours would be limited to Niagara County residents only, with a limit of two transactions per visit.

Since our last edition, things have really progressed on a number of fronts: The state budget was finalized in Albany, and new guidance was (finally) released by the New York State Department of Health, aligning to the updated guidance from the CDC related to social distancing in schools. We have moved quickly to advance both the 2021-22 budget and plans to return students to campus under the new guidance.
