Billy Quarantillo makes a mark in MMA - leaves a mark at popular Lewiston eatery

Now, Niagara County can lay claim to another nationally known professional athlete: mixed martial arts star Billy Quarantillo. The Lewiston-Porter graduate will face Alexander Hernandez on Dec. 10 in "Ultimate UFC 282," a mixed-martial arts card at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The bout will broadcast on ESPN pay-per-view.
Deposits for Food continues support of pantries

When Healing Earth CBD opened in the summer of 2021, public response "was very, very positive," co-owner Brandon Rush said. "You know, obviously there's a huge issue with education. A lot of people come in, and they don't know the difference between marijuana and hemp. They don't know what the difference between CBD and what THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) is, or what it does to the body. So, we spend a lot of time educating customers. But I think, overall, it's been a very positive customer experience. I mean, we've done very well; we're obviously still in business."

It's fall, and influenza (flu) season is here again. The flu is a respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses that infect the nose, throat and lungs. The virus spreads mainly from person to person through droplets made when people with flu cough, sneeze or talk. The virus also may spread when people touch something with flu virus on it and then touch their eyes, nose or mouth. Flu can cause severe illness, hospitalization and death. Anyone can get the flu, and serious problems can occur at any age.

Lewiston Family Ice Rink on hold for '22 holiday season

As the 2022 holiday season approaches, it appears the Town of Lewiston Family Ice Rink is being put on the shelf for this year. The Town Board announced last week that, due to a number of concerns - most notably the condition of the ice rink cooling systems and related equipment, plus uncertainties with the rink's Academy Park site - it has decided to suspend the annual holiday feature for this year.

At 7:10 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, the Lewiston Council on the Arts will present the ninth annual "A Tribute to the Edmund Fitzgerald" fundraiser at the Brickyard Brewing Company, 436 Center St. This multisensory and multimedia tribute will be hosted by artist and Edmund Fitzgerald enthusiast Thomas Paul Asklar, who will commemorate the 47th anniversary of the disaster.
