Second arrest in McKinley High School investigation

Erie County District Attorney John J. Flynn on Monday announced a 17-year-old male from Buffalo was arraigned before Youth Part Justice Kelly Brinkworth on one count of attempted murder in the second degree (class "B" violent felony), one count of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree (class "C" violent felony) and one count of assault in the second degree (class "D" felony).

Niagara Falls Fire Department has pair of weekend blazes

The Niagara Falls Fire Department responded to two fires over the weekend. On Friday, a call at 9:32 p.m. reporting a structure fire, at 764 16th St., resulted in firefighters finding a two-story wood structure fully engulfed in flames. Upon extinguishing the fire, crews entered the building and found it was clear. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Buffalo Museum of Science opened the doors to "Antarctic Dinosaurs: The Exhibition," presented by M&T Bank, to a sold-out first weekend. The touring exhibit from the Field Museum in Chicago allows Western New York visitors to touch real fossils from Antarctica, see full-sized dinosaur replicas and learn about scientific expeditions that led to these discoveries.

The Taste of Buffalo presented by Tops is now accepting applications for its annual scholarship program to support Western New York high school seniors aspiring to careers in the foodservice and hospitality industries. This year's program will award four recipients with a $500 scholarship to be applied toward non-tuition expenses, such as room, board, books and fees. At least one scholarship will be awarded to a student in the City of Buffalo.

Sean Ryan and Assembly member Kimberly Jean-Pierre announced their plans to fight to restore proposed cuts to library capital funding in the fiscal year 2022-23 state budget. The executive budget proposal released earlier this week would cut library construction aid to $14 million from the $34 million allocated in the FY 2021-22 state budget.

Higgins: $10 million for Times Beach on Buffalo's Outer Harbor

Congressman Brian Higgins announced $10 million in new federal funding provided through the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Law will be invested in Times Beach Nature Preserve on Buffalo's Outer Harbor. The funding was included in a list of waterway and port infrastructure projects released by the White House that will be led by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
