The series is scheduled to begin Monday, April 13, at the North Tonawanda Public Library, 505 Meadow Drive. It runs from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Nominations are being accepted for the 15th annual Key to the Locks Award, established to recognize persons in Niagara County who exemplify the community spirit or promote the heritage or preservation of the historic Erie Canal. Buffalo Diocese embarks on path toward reorganization as it files for bankruptcy

The Diocese of Buffalo has formally filed for Chapter 11 reorganization under the U.S. Federal Bankruptcy code with a primary aim of enabling financial resolution for the most number of individuals who have filed claims under the Child Victims Act - a year-long window that opened on Aug. 14, 2019, that suspends the statute of limitations related to allegations of past sexual abuse.

The Mental Health Advocates of WNY (MHA) will host its 58th annual dinner and auction on Wednesday, March 11, at the Atrium @ Rich's. This is the MHA's signature event and biggest fundraiser of the year. The New York State Department of Taxation and Finance announced it's partnering with multiple colleges in Western New York to offer free electronic tax preparation and filing resources to students, faculty and members of the community. Those with income of $69,000 or less in 2019 may be eligible to file their federal and state taxes at one of the Tax Department's free tax assistance sites.

"The Art of Suffrage" exhibit will be on display at the Kenan Center in Lockport from Feb. 9 to March 29. The multimedia exhibit celebrates the centennial anniversary of the 19th Amendment's ratification with artifacts from the collection of local activist Mary Brennan Taylor as the centerpiece. The collection includes ephemera such as magazines, buttons, post cards, sheet music and more from the 72-year period when trailblazing suffragists fought for their right to vote.

March of Dimes receives $200,000 grant from Health Foundation for Western & Central New York

March of Dimes, the leader in the fight for the health of all moms and babies, recently announced its latest collaboration with the Health Foundation for Western & Central New York aimed at reducing preterm births and improving maternal and infant health in Buffalo, Niagara Falls and Syracuse. The agency said premature birth is the largest contributor to infant death in the U.S., and pregnancy-related death has more than doubled over the past 25 years.
Greenway: State Parks Standing Committee to meet for project approval

New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Basil Seggos announced the state's world-class fishing opportunities continue to draw anglers from near and far to New York's many productive freshwater sportfisheries. New data on angler effort, patterns, preferences and attitudes was released as part of DEC's statewide survey of freshwater anglers, which helps DEC assess both the biological and human dimension aspects of managing New York's freshwater fisheries.
