'Lockport Blue,' honoring local police, returns early

"Lockport Blue," a communitywide effort to recognize the sacrifices and dedication of police enforcement throughout Niagara County, returns a little early this year. A salute to local enforcement will take place at halftime (approximately 3 p.m.) Saturday, Oct. 20, at the Lockport High School football game at Max Lederer Field behind Emmet Belknap Middle School.
Lawn signs and blue lights are available at for purchase at Grimbles Hardware on West Main Street in downtown Lockport and Spalding Hardware on Davison Road.
During the month of November, the DeSales, Lockport and Starpoint schools are participating with various programs, including assemblies, reading with a cop, coffee with a cop and panel discussions. New this year are two basketball games between law enforcement and students and faculty. The first is at DeSales on Nov. 14 and at Lockport High School on Nov. 20. Law enforcement will break bread with seniors at the Dale Association on Nov. 7.
Lockport Blue is a monthlong appreciation for local law enforcement and runs through the end of November.
