Heart of Niagara Animal Rescue will be present with adoptable dogs from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday at the Walden Galleria Mall. Volunteers will be on the lower level in front of Famous Footwear, which is located between Lord and Taylor and Macy's.

Local collection sites hope to collect 21,000 gift-filled shoeboxes from individuals, families and groups for needy kids during Operation Christmas Child's National Collection Week, Nov. 17-24.

The annual Jack Beatty Memorial Hospice Cruise and Clambake held in July continued its tradition of great entertainment, delicious food and leisurely sailing and power boating up the Niagara River, all to benefit patients and families served by Niagara Hospice. The event, now in its 15th year, raised a record $40,000.
