This November, during Native American Heritage Month, communities throughout New York state will celebrate the culture and traditions of Indigenous peoples. Yet, a disproportionate number of those from Native Nations experience adverse health resulting from commercial tobacco use. Specialists with the New York State Smokers' Quitline are ready to assist members of Native Nations and all who live throughout the state with free and confidential resources to quit.

Town of Niagara Active Hose was the scene of a mega meat and basket raffle to benefit Francis Center, a ministry of the Sisters of St. Francis at Stella Niagara. More than $3,000 worth of beef, pork, chicken and fish was up for grabs at the mid-October event, in addition to dozens of themed baskets.

The New York State Public Service Commission on Thursday established three-year rate plans for electric and gas customers of New York State Electric & Gas Corp. (NYSEG) and Rochester Gas and Electric Corp. (RG&E) by adopting the terms of a joint proposal that is much more favorable to customers than the companies' original requests, reducing the initial rate year requests by almost $231 million.

Recycler gifts $9,000 to Camp Good Days

On Friday, electronics recycler Sunnking presented a $9,875.01 check to Camp Good Days and Special Times, a nonprofit organization helping children and families with cancer. The funds were raised as a part of Sunnking's 13th annual "e-Scrap for Camp" fundraiser. The company saw 323 area businesses participate in the electronics recycling donation drive between Buffalo and Rochester.
