North Tonawanda Mayor Arthur Pappas couldn't believe it had been a year since announcing the last Thunder on the Niagara boat races, but on Monday afternoon, Pappas revealed the family-fun show would make it's return to Gratwick Riverside Park Saturday, Aug. 4- Sunday, Aug. 5.

Just before the Fourth of July holiday, the Lewiston Veterans of Foreign Wars has announced it will embark on a major project that will transform the current Veterans Memorial at Academy Park into a "Circle of Honor" that will pay tribute to Lewiston veterans who have served this country.

Over the weekend, New York State Sen. Rob Ortt joined the Olcott Fire Co. to reveal its brand-new, multiuse emergency response truck. Thanks to a grant obtained by Ortt, the fire company was able to purchase a new response vehicle.

On June 1, 10-year-old Gavin Burns was injured in a lawnmower accident at his home in Lewiston. Mercy Flight took him to Oishei Children's Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery. Doctors were able to save Gavin's leg, but, unfortunately, they were not able to save his foot, which had to be amputated just above his ankle.

The Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy, the first nonprofit in the nation to manage and operate an historic urban park system, on Thursday broke the Guinness World Records title for the "Longest Line of Garden Flamingos." Breaking the current record by an additional 92 flamingos, the organization placed 1,500 plastic pink #FLOmingos (Fredrick Law Olmsted ... FLOmingo) in a line to recognize the 150th celebration of the Olmsted Parks system in Buffalo taking place this year.

Old Fort Niagara is about to host its largest annual re-enactment, the French and Indian War Encampment, which visitors, re-enactors and staff alike anticipate with excitement - and much planning - each year. The three-day event will occur Friday through Sunday, June 29 to July 1, and will be packed with French, British and Native re-enactors from the U.S. and Canada, living-history camps and exhibits, large-scale battle re-enactments, hands-on activities, special tours and demonstrations, and food and historical goods for sale.
