OPRHP recommends to boaters and paddlers that, even in the first few weeks of spring, the water is still very cold, and precautions should be taken.

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced the six designated 2024 "Free Fishing Days" in New York will take place on: Feb. 17-18 (Presidents' Day weekend), June 29-30, Sept. 28 (National Hunting and Fishing Day) and Nov. 11 (Veterans Day). During these days, the fishing license requirement is waived for freshwater fishing on New York's waters.
