DASNY completes summer construction at SUNY Buffalo State, University at Buffalo, Alfred State College

Gerrard P. Bushell, Ph.D., president and CEO of the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York (DASNY), announced nearly $10 million in upgrades have been completed at SUNY Buffalo State, Alfred State College and the University at Buffalo. The work is part of approximately $31 million in upgrades to SUNY campuses throughout New York that was completed by DASNY during the summer months - ready in time for students to begin the fall semester.

After a 3-0 start to the season, the Niagara-Wheatfield Falcons football team was finally handed its first loss from Jamestown, Friday night. The Red Raiders defeated the Falcons, 26-14.

Niagara-Wheatfield girls swimming & diving looking to keep history rolling

For the last three years, Niagara-Wheatfield girls swimming and diving has set up quite a history. After not winning a Niagara Frontier League title until 2015, the team started their own little legacy by clinching a share of the NFL titles in 2016 and 2017. For 2018, Falcons coach Mike Corsaro thinks title No. 4 could be in reach, too.
N-W boys soccer start dominant; hold high expectations

Last season, the Niagara-Wheatfield boys soccer team won four games and lost two, but tied seven times. Every game seemed to wind up in a tie. In 2018, ties are turning into victories for the Falcons.

It wasn't the best start for the Niagara-Wheatfield Falcons football team Thursday night, but in the end, the team prevailed in its first road game of the season. The Falcons rolled over the Hamburg Bulldogs, 35-12, Thursday night at Howe Field on the Hamburg High School campus.

Director of fine arts Dean Vallas said the Board of Education and superintendent have made new strides to foster fine arts in the district. AAA Western and Central New York kicked off its annual "School's Open - Drive Carefully" campaign as back-to-school season is in full swing. AAA's "School's Open - Drive Carefully" campaign was launched nationally in 1946 to help reduce the number of school-related pedestrian injuries and fatalities. The John R. Oishei Foundation has announced the availability of full, four-year tuition scholarships for incoming high school freshmen at area private secondary schools for the fall of 2019. Niagara-Wheatfield joining in on girls hockey

Niagara-Wheatfield High School's boys hockey team is known for its storied success on the ice, but now the girls will get their chance to show what they can do. Last week, N-W announced it would join forces with Starpoint High School, as well as North Tonawanda High School, to form a girls hockey team. Lewiston-Porter High School is set to join come the 2019-20 season.

Niagara-Wheatfield girls volleyball coach Brandi Cochran experienced a whirlwind of a season last year. She raised her first sole Niagara Frontier League title, and then ventured off to the Section VI Class A championship for the first time in program history, where they were eventually defeated. Nevertheless, Cochran knows, even though last season was good, 2018 could be better.

There was a lot of anticipation for the start of the Niagara-Wheatfield Lady Falcons volleyball season. The team is coming off one of the best season's in program history, going 19-2, winning the Niagara Frontier League title, and reaching the Section VI Class A finals. Although the roster may look a little different this season, the Lady Falcons didn't miss a beat in their league opener versus Lockport.
