First Niagara, Buffalo Bisons host a baseball clinic for local underserved children

The First Niagara Foundation and the Buffalo Bisons are teaming up to provide a baseball clinic for children enrolled in the Willie Hutch Jones Educational and Sports Program. The clinic will take place Wednesday, Aug. 13, from 10 a.m. until noon at Coca-Cola Field.

Grand Island Chamber of Commerce: Cellular Connection to host 2nd annual backpack giveaway

Residents in Grand Island are about to benefit from a national backpack giveaway campaign.

The Cellular Connection, the largest Verizon Premium Wireless retailer in the U.S., in a joint effort with its customers, has announced that it will donate 100,000 backpacks full of school supplies to children through its School Rocks Backpack Giveaway. Last year, the company donated 60,000 backpacks.

More than 350 participating TCC stores across the U.S. are inviting local families to bring their children to the store between noon and 2 p.m. on Aug. 2 to pick up a backpack filled with pencils, paper, a pencil box, folders, glue and more.

Niagara Catholic receives Oishei STEAM grant

Niagara Catholic Jr./Sr. High School was one of 16 BISSNET Schools to receive the Oishei STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, mathematics) grant. The grant will provide $40,000 for three years and is intended to promote STEAM education in the school and community, as well as collaboration with other education institutions.
