In front of a loud crowd at Genesee Community College on Saturday, the North Tonawanda Lumberjacks record-breaking season came to a close. The Irondequoit Eagles defeated the Jacks 65-41 in the Class A Far West Regional.

At the end of the 2013-14 Niagara Falls High School basketball season, it was tough to judge in which direction the Wolverines were heading. The team had just finished 7-13, the program's worst record since the opening of the new high school in 2000. But the program had a storied past.

In preparation for the upcoming boating season, U.S. Coast Guard Flotilla 3-1 will be offering a series of "About Boating Safety" one-day classes this spring and summer, taught by certified instructors. Classes will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays, March 25, April 29, May 13, June 10 and July 15, in the Officers Club at Fort Niagara State Park in Youngstown.

Members of the Lions Club will visit Island classrooms to conduct free eye testing. Members of the club made a presentation to the Grand Island Board of Education at the board's regular meeting Monday and told the board they will visit Kaegebein, Sidway, and Huth Road elementary schools next week to do vision screening.
