The Knights of Columbus Mary Star of the Sea Council No. 4752 presented a pair of Kaegebein Elementary School students with awards for winning the council's annual Substance Abuse Awareness Poster Contest.
Knight Peter Kuszczak, the chairman of the contest, presented $25 awards to Savannah Samplinski and Luke Hutton (pictured at right), both fourth-graders at Kaegebein. Hutton won the alcohol awareness category, while Samplinski won the drug abuse awareness category.
Sixty entries were received in the contest from students at Island schools ages 11 and under. The winning posters advance to regional judging.
