Erie County Sheriff Timothy B. Howard recently issued a statement regarding Thanksgiving. "I have no plans to utilize my office's resources or deputies to break up the great tradition of Thanksgiving dinner," he explained. "This national holiday has created longstanding family traditions that are at the heart of America, and these traditions should not be stopped or interrupted by Gov. Cuomo's mandates."
Hope arises for bettering the boulevard

When the first South Grand Island Bridge was constructed in 1935, connecting Tonawanda with Niagara Falls, the New York State Thruway Highway 190 did not exist. Travelers heading north used Grand Island Boulevard as its primary thoroughfare, according to Supervisor John C. Whitney. That is why the former bustling Niagara Falls Visitor Center was built at the corner of Grand Island Boulevard and Staley Road - and why there are so many motels along the boulevard.

DEC acquires 525 acres in Western New York for wildlife management

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation on Sunday announced the recent acquisition of 525 acres in the town of North Collins, Erie County, to create the Clear Lake Wildlife Management Area (WMA). The land offers hunting, fishing, trapping, wildlife viewing and other recreational opportunities and becomes the largest state-owned WMA in Erie County.
