Revitalized Niagara Power get first home win

After a two-year hiatus, the Niagara Power pulled off an 8-3 win against the Genesee Rapids at their home opener on Saturday, June 2. Starting pitcher Conrad Voss had seven strikeouts during the game, which remained tied 1-1 from the top of the third inning until the bottom of the sixth. That's when the Power scored five runs and finished off the victory.

As reported in last week's Sentinel, delays in construction of a new plaza on Center Street in Lewiston led the Zoning Board of Appeals to rule previously granted variances had expired. The ZBA's unanimous opinion is that construction should've begun on the project within one year of the granting of eight village code modifications - by late July 2017.
'Garden Party & Flower Show' fundraiser

The National Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima, is holding its sixth annual outdoor "Garden Party & Flower Show" fundraiser from 3-7:30 p.m. Saturday, June 16. The evening will include a cash wine and beer tent; free, fresh fried dough; appetizers served at 5:15 p.m.; a gourmet buffet available at 6 p.m.; a "Golden Ticket" raffle, plus a floral basket raffle, curio table and "Ladies' & Men's Hat Contest."
USAF Blue Aces to perform in Lewiston

Niagara County Peach Festival to begin on Thursday this year

The 61st annual Niagara County Peach Festival will be held Sept. 6-9 at Academy Park on Center Street in Lewiston. An estimated crowd exceeding 35,000 is expected over the now four-day festival.

Eight variances granted to Ellicott Development in July 2016 for its Lewiston plaza project were declared void on Tuesday. The village's Zoning Board of Appeals said the Buffalo real estate company failed to commence construction within the period of time listed in municipal code.

The Village of Lewiston Planning Commission on Monday voted unanimously to approve site plan changes at the Ellicott Development plaza site on Center, North Eighth and Onondaga streets. Specifically, members accepted a proposal to re-subdivide adjoining property located behind the building housing tenants including Vincenzo's Pizza House and Sue's Frame of Mind.
