Dates announced for 61st annual festival
The 61st annual Niagara County Peach Festival will be held Sept. 6-9 at Academy Park on Center Street in Lewiston. An estimated crowd exceeding 35,000 is expected over the now four-day festival.
For the first time, the festival will fully open on Thursday night, Sept. 6, with all food, craft vendors and rides operational. Last year, Thursday was ride preview night. This time around, the festival will be 100 percent operational - including stage entertainment.
The Niagara County Peach Festival has been held by the Lewiston Kiwanis since 1958. In that time, the popular event has raised well over $1 million in goods and donations for area charities and organizations.
Once again, fresh peaches will be used for the peach shortcake, grown in Niagara County at Bittner-Singer Farms at 6620 Lake Road in Appleton. The Peach Festival is again expected to serve more than 13,000 pounds (6.5 tons) of locally harvested peaches, along with the fresh shortcake made by the famous local DiCamillo Bakery.
An official media event will be held at Academy Park in August to announce the full schedule of events and features for the 2018 festival, including samples of the peach shortcake.
