Mount St. Mary's Hospital, part of Catholic Health, has received three-year reaccreditation from The Joint Commission, the nation's leading organization on hospital accreditation.
In the health care industry, Joint Commission accreditation is viewed as the "gold seal of approval," indicating a hospital meets high national standards for quality and safety.
"This accreditation is a detailed examination and measurement of elements of performance and standards of excellence in the areas of patient safety, quality and leadership, and we are proud to be re-accredited once again," said hospital President and CEO Gary Tucker, FACHE. "This recognition of performance is a tribute to the high standards adopted by our staff and their total commitment to high-reliability, high-quality and excellent patient care."
The accreditation review took place during three full days of on-site visits by a team of six surveyors in mid-March. The surveyors not only examined policies and procedures, but went to all patient care areas and all sites of service operated by Mount St. Mary's in the community. They met with staff and patients to discuss issues related to providing the highest quality of care and outcomes.
"The survey process is truly an effective means of measurement that places us among the leaders of the best in health care in the nation," Tucker said.
The Joint Commission has been accrediting hospitals for more than 50 years. Accreditation helps hospitals improve their performance, raise the level of patient care, and demonstrate accountability in the rapidly changing health care marketplace.
