The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) is celebrating 50 years of the Small Business Economic Trends survey, but it said small business owners are not feeling optimistic in the current economic environment. The Optimism Index decreased 0.1 points in October to 90.7, marking the 22nd month below the 50-year average. The last time the Optimism Index was at or above the average was December 2021.

Shea's Performing Arts Center is celebrating a significant increase in season-ticketholders for the Five Star Bank 2023-24 Broadway season at Shea's Buffalo Theatre. The first two productions of the season, "Mrs. Doubtfire" and "Moulin Rouge The Musical," attracted 54,000 enthusiastic theatergoers - 16,500 of these attendees were season-ticketholders for the Broadway season.

Vortex VR Arcade, located on the third floor of the One Niagara Welcome Center at 360 Rainbow Blvd., held its grand opening Sunday with a Halloween party. Artpark & Company held its annual meeting at The Buffalo Club on Oct. 18. Senior leadership - President Sonia Clark and Vice President Dave Wedekindt - reported to the board of directors on the organization's highlights and accomplishments for its 50th season. The 2023 campaign featured 189 events, workshops and programs that served nearly 100,000 visitors. Artpark & Company's estimated economic impact to the region was $9.7 million.
