Lewiston Council on the Arts Artistic Director Eva Nicklas recently presented Elderwood at Wheatfield Community Relations Coordinator Stacey Zahno with an appreciation plaque for the generous sponsorship of Lewiston's "Blue Mondays" concert series. The seven-week series regularly hosts an audience of 400-600 in the charming setting of the Hennepin Park Gazebo.

The Northwest Jazz Festival, Lewiston, NY, kicks off tonight on Center Street and continues all day Saturday. Now in its 17th year, the popular event features local, regional, national and even international musicians performing on stages stretching from Center and Fourth streets to Center and Sixth streets. Mount St. Mary's Hospital has now completed a two-year renovation program that has refurbished all of its inpatient rooms and added a significant number of additional private rooms. Improvements were necessary because of a consistent increase in the number of patients.

Rows of extra chairs were wheeled into the Morgan Lewis Village Boardroom on Monday night to accommodate the large number of residents who filed into the Red Brick to learn more about an "Oxford House" on Creek Road Extension. After about a half-hour of civil discourse at the monthly board meeting, residents were told the group home is legal. Furthermore, the occupants can function as they have since the local program was established last September.

Barker Lions recently sponsored "Lions Night at the Ransomville Races." Lions members from Lockport, Newfane, Wilson, Town of Niagara and Lewiston joined the Barker club. Past District governors Sharon Battaglia, John Hake and Jim Muscoriel joined current District Gov. Jeff Jarvis at the event. To celebrate, trophies were given by the Lions to the winning racers.

The Lakeview Animal Sanctuary has been a refuge since 1983. Operated by Sandi Pfohl and her dedicated volunteers, the sanctuary is a nonprofit, no-kill home for all animals - from exotics to farm. The sanctuary tries to adopt-out its animals, but many stay for years, because they have ailments, injury, daily medication, other special needs ... or just to enjoy their senior years.

The parade will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, on Center Street in Lewiston. The route will start at the Red Brick Municipal Building on North Fourth Street, cross over to Center Street, and continue to Academy Park.
