Niagara Frontier Publications readers voted The Silo Restaurant as the “Best Summer Dining Spot” in the annual “Savory Summer” contest. The Lewiston waterfront eatery also took “Best Hot Dog,” “Best Hamburger” and “Best French Fries.”
“I think it's a true testament to our staff's commitment at always serving the best product they can serve; and it's a testament to our commitment to only serving the most high-quality products we can serve our customers,” General Manager Lexi Alfiere-David said.
She added, “We're honored. Four categories – it's truly an honor. We're blown away!”

As it pertains to the individual food categories, Alfiere-David said:
•“The hot dogs – you can't get better than Sahlen’s. So, of course, we go with Sahlen’s.”
•French fries: “We use Lamb Weston. They're a fantastic fry company. Consistent. Tastes the best.”
The Silo’s fries are unique in that they stay hot and crisp longer than most restaurants’ deep-fried spuds.
“We worked very hard with our vendors, and we had a lot of taste tests for many years. The last few years we've really locked it in, and now we know our product, and it's the only product we'll use.”
•Burgers: “We go through a high volume of burger, and it was important to us to have something that was going to be consistent, always taste good, be extremely juicy, and the fat percentage had to be correct. We needed to find something that was not just able to be cooked by our staff members, but had to taste great at the end of cooking. So, again, trial and error for the burger, as well. It took us a long time to find a premium burger, and we have committed to a company that has been fantastic, and we get a lot of great feedback on our burger.”
Alfiere-David emphasized, “Our burger, our french fries, our hot dog, even our chicken breast – every item we put out of this kitchen – is the highest quality available to us. We paid for that quality; and it's clearly well received by the customers.”
Western New Yorkers take advantage of every ounce of summer – and many seasonal eateries are excellent when it comes to food, location and unique amenities.
“I can identify that there are a lot of great places in our area, especially summer favorites, and to be voted as the No. 1 is truly an honor,” Alfiere-David said. “We encompass a great view, good food, and fun desserts, with a historical punch, and we feel honored to be able to bring this to the community.
“We work hard for it. It's not easy. It's a lot of maintenance. It's a lot of making sure everything's updated whenever it needs to be. We put into it what we get out, and there's not a day that goes by that we are not looking at how we can do it better.
“We know there are a lot of great places in our community, and the fact that our area voted us No. 1, it solidifies our hard work – and it's appreciated.
“Our staff is just on cloud nine. When I told them, they were so excited.
“We got the view, the good food, the good dessert, the awesome staff, and the history to back it up.”
And to the people who voted for The Silo, Alfiere-David simply said, “Thank you.
“We are very happy with our 2024 season, and this is just such a wonderful note to wind down on.”
