Girl Scouts of Western New York using online cookie sales

Girl Scouts of Western New York has moved formally to all-online sales of cookies, after two weeks ago cancelling more than 750 planned, in-person cookie booth sales stations, given the region's current virus restrictions.

In an effort to slow the spread of the coronavirus, Gov. Andrew Cuomo issued a mandate earlier this month forcing New York restaurants and bars to close their doors to the public. Once that happened, many of these eateries switched to an acceptable form of service: takeout and delivery.

Poloncarz today joined with local grocery stores Tops Markets and Wegmans to inform residents of continuing efforts to keep store shelves stocked and shopping environments safe for all. Grocery stores have been classified as essential businesses during the coronavirus pandemic and are working to ensure that all patrons have access to the supplies they need for the health and well-being of themselves and their families.

The Lenten fish fry has become increasingly popular in the past decade, as more and more eateries have added haddock or cod to their menus. While some are still learning how to perfect that beer batter or the keys to quality coleslaw, Lewiston's Tin Pan Alley has long since mastered the fish fry. In fact, its dish has been a spring staple in the River Region for a quarter-century.

For the second year, students in Lisa Cook's class helped out a local Lewiston organization that tries to make the season brighter for men and women who cannot be home with their families.

The occasion was a ribbon-cutting for Just Desserts by Aimee - which is kitty-corner to the Lewiston wine bar. Friends and family looked on with awe at the picturesque pastries, precisely piled on serving plates.
