The Buffalo Zoo will hold a groundbreaking ceremony for construction of the Arctic Edge exhibit Wednesday, Feb. 19, at 10 a.m., at 300 Parkside Ave., Buffalo.

The ceremony will begin in the former Trading Post building.

The Buffalo Zoo successfully completed a fundraising campaign in 2013 for the new Arctic Edge exhibit. Now that demolition of the old bear exhibits is complete, the construction team will break ground and start building the new state-of-the-art exhibit, which is slated to open in the fall of 2015.

Lawmakers expected to attend include Mayor Byron Brown, Eric County Executive Mark Poloncarz, and Sam Hoyt representing Gov. Andrew Cuomo's office.
