The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation reminds New Yorkers about the annual statewide ban prohibiting residential brush burning that lasts March 16 through May 14. With warmer temperatures and lower humidity, the risk of fire increased across the state this week. The fire danger map for the 2023 fire season on DEC's website is updated with the latest fire conditions.

The Niagara County Youth Bureau will return as a sponsor for the 2023 Summer Food Service Program (SFSP). This program ensures that children who are economically disadvantaged continue to receive nutritious meals during summer vacation. Meals are comparable to the National School Breakfast and National School Lunch Programs (NSBP and NSLP, respectively) throughout the school year.

A new survey from AAA found nearly 2 in 10 drivers had to get their vehicle repaired after hitting a pothole last year. In total, an estimated 44 million drivers experienced pothole damage significant enough to require repair in 2022, up from 28 million in 2021 - a 57% increase.

Hochul: State Police issue 11,865 tickets during Super Bowl weekend Stop DWI enforcement campaign

The New York State Police announced Troopers issued more than 11,800 tickets during a special STOP DWI traffic enforcement period over Super Bowl Weekend. During the campaign which started Friday, Feb. 10, and ran through Monday, Feb. 13, Troopers arrested 183 people for DWI, and investigated 490 crashes, which resulted in 73 people being injured and four fatalities.
